Every year, thousands of workers from foreign countries enter Canada to work temporary jobs that helps Canadian employers fill up job vacancies where there is a shortage of local manpower. But for them to be able to work in Canada, they need to apply first for a work permit Canada at a Canadian Visa office abroad. A work permit Canada allows a person or an individual who is not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada to live and work temporarily in Canada. In some cases, a temporary resident visa may also be required together with work permit Canada for a person to be able to live and work in Canada though in some job vacancies or people who are in Canada for business reasons, a work permit Canada is not necessary.
To apply for a work permit Canada from outside of Canadian territory, the applicant must submit the following documents together with his or her application for work permit Canada.
- A job offer from a Canadian employer.
- A filled up application, stating that you meet all the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.
- A positive labour market opinion from the HRSDC or the Human Resources and Social Development Canada that the employer is financially and legally able to hire a foreign worker to fill the job.
In most situations, it is the employer who should get a written confirmation or a positive labour market opinion. But, in some cases, there are jobs that only require a work permit Canada and not a labour market opinion from HRSDC. People under the following work categories only need a work permit Canada and not a labour market opinion.
- Professionals, traders, investors and business people working under certain international agreements.
- Entrepreneurs and company transferees who can provide Canadian residents with an advantage by working in Canada.
- People participating in exchange programs.
- Foreign students studying in Canada who need to do some co-op work as part of their study program.
- Spouses and common-law partners of foreign workers and foreign students who are studying or working under the Post-Graduate Work Permit Program.
- Spouses of foreign students who are not enrolled in full-time studies.
